Big Sky Yoga Retreats is partnering with YogaWorks to offer their renowned teacher training program for the very first time in Montana. Since 1990, YogaWorks has trained hundreds of new teachers, including some of the most celebrated modern-day yogis. The new YogaWorks program in Bozeman is a 200-hour Teacher Training for serious students and aspiring teachers. This multi-specialist approach to teacher training blends the yoga traditions from the East and West with some inspiration from Ashtanga yoga and some from Iyengar yoga, integrating both into its own paradigm.

Big Sky Yoga Retreats' founder Margaret Burns Vap first partnered with YW to offer the training at her Washington DC studio Georgetown Yoga; it was one of the first "export" programs beyond YW's home base of California and New York. Her commitment to the YW method is the reason she is integrating the offering into Big Sky Yoga Retreats as well.

The 200 hour Program

The foundational (200–hour) program is ideal for serious students of yoga and aspiring teachers. It is recognized by Yoga Alliance and comprises three areas of study: The Theory and Practice of Yoga, Yoga Philosophy and The Art of Teaching.

Students who complete the 200-hr teacher-training program will:

The curriculum will include a comprehensive study of the foundations, techniques, and mechanics of fundamental yoga postures with an emphasis on deepening the student’s personal practice and recognizing and honoring it as the source for inspiration and creative teaching.

Topics include:

James Brown will be the teacher trainer for this program. James taught the training that BSYR's founder Margaret took, and she cannot wait to bring his energy, enthusiasm and humor to Bozeman. James has instructed teachers and students on 5 continents with his unique vision of yoga practice. His practice and teaching reflect equal passions for fun and intelligence in self-discovery. James is a longtime devotee of Ashtanga and Iyengar yoga and is a Senior Teacher Trainer at YogaWorks, Los Angeles. Find out more about James at www.jamesbrownyoga.com

Immerse yourself in a winter wonderland while you gain the tools to transform your yoga practice and your life...

Enjoy the challenges of yoga teacher training in this idyllic retreat destination. Nestled in Southwest Montana’s Gallatin Valley, encompassed by the majestic Rocky Mountains, Bozeman is considered to be one of Montana’s main attractions. This small town prides itself in offering a close-knit community atmosphere with big city amenities striking the perfect balance between conscious city living and being close to nature. The city sits in a high mountain valley at an elevation of 4,795 feet and is surrounded on three sides by the beautiful Bridger, Gallatin and Tobacco Root mountains. Outside Magazine rated Bozeman one of the top 15 best sport cities in the US, and in winter downhill and cross-country skiing opportunities abound. Check out the recent article from MSNBC entitled "Dreamtowns Offer Refuge from Big Cities", where Bozeman comes in at #2.

During your visit you have the opportunity to experience the biggest skiing in America at Big Sky Ski Resort. Approximately 30 miles from your residence, sister resorts Big Sky and Moonlight Basin together comprise over 5,500 acres of uncrowded terrain. Pristine cross-country ski trails surround Bozeman, and you can get out and play in the snow with plenty of other outdoor recreational activities such as snowshoeing, ice-climbing, and snow-coach visits to Yellowstone National Park.

Your training location (and residence for non-locals) is the cozy Gallatin Gateway Inn, just 15 miles from the heart of Bozeman. First built as a response to a spur line of the Milwaukee Railroad that carried travelers to Yellowstone National Park, the Inn has received Historic Landmark designation being extensively restored to much of it’s original glamour.
